A Fulton County judge sentenced an Atlanta man to life in prison on Thursday for the 2011 murder of a tow truck driver.

A jury found 75-year-old Philmore Reed guilty of murder, felony murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. Reed shot Travis Fenty in February 2011 as Fenty removed a vehicle from a lot on Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway.

Reed claimed to own the property, which was foreclosed two years earlier, and refused to leave or remove the cars from the lot.

Reed ordered Fenty off the property before shooting him and at a coworker, who was not injured, according to a Fulton County District Attorney news release. Reed later surrendered after police surrounded his home.

Reed never owned the property and told detectives he had no remorse for the killing, prosecutors said.

Fenty was 44 and is survived by his daughter and wife. The murder occurred weeks before his one-year wedding anniversary.
