An 8-year-old boy was shot in the ear in a drive-by shooting in northwest Atlanta on Saturday night, police said.

The boy was taken to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston in stable condition.

His father, Marvin Williams, was arrested after police found drugs and a gun in his car.

Police said Williams was northbound on Mayson Turner Road, approaching Chappell Road, when the driver of a green Chevrolet Camaro fired three to four shots at the back of Williams' car. One bullet apparently went through the boy's headrest and struck his ear, police said.

Following the 8:45 p.m. incident, police questioned Williams. He said he did not know why someone would shoot at him, police said.

Williams was arrested after officers found two bags of marijuana and a .45-caliber pistol in his car. He was taken to the Fulton County Jail.
