A 3-year-old Douglas County boy drowned in his family’s above-ground swimming pool, the county’s coroner said Thursday.

Family members called 911 Wednesday evening after finding Damien Wayne McDougal unresponsive in the pool, located in the 7300 block of Post Road in Winston, coroner Randy Daniel said.

Paramedics worked to resuscitate Damien, who died after being taken to Tanner Medical Center in Carrollton. It was the same hospital where the boy was born, according to his online obituary.

A fan of The Avengers and Spiderman, Damien’s nickname was Peanut, his obituary states. In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother, sister, grandparents and great-grandparents.

The family will receive friends at the J. Collins Funeral Home on Friday from 6 until 8 p.m. A graveside service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Meadowbrook Memory Gardens with Rev. Mike Mallory officiating.
