A 3-year-old boy who wandered outside his home has been seriously injured by his family's dog, according to Cherokee County authorities.
The child, who suffered injuries to his head and upper body, has been transported to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite, Ray Waters, county marshal, told the AJC.
"For some unknown reason, the child got out of the house," Waters said.
The family's dog, a shepherd-malamute mix weighing about 70 pounds, was on a leash behind the home, Waters said. The dog has been quarantined at the animal shelter, he said.
No charges have been filed at this time.
