An Augusta-area teenager accused of fatally shooting his friend was denied bond Friday, the Augusta Chronicle reported.

Police say Lacy Aaron Schmidt, of Harlem, shot 14-year-old Alana Callahan in the head and neck Jan. 31 as she sat at a computer, then dragged her body into the woods, the paper reported.

Schmidt first said Callahan was killed by an intruder, then later said he accidentally shot her, police told the paper.

Superior Court Judge Albert M. Pickett ruled that Schmidt must stay in a youth detention center while awaiting trial, the paper said.
