A West Palm Beach woman was charged Saturday with carrying a concealed firearm, according to Palm Beach Police.

Deshantia Renee Bell, 20, of West Palm Beach, also was charged with possession of marijuana, less than 20 grams, police said. She was taken to the Palm Beach County Jail and later released on a $3,000 bond.

Bell was stopped after police saw the Dodge utility vehicle she was driving suddenly stop on South Ocean Boulevard, near the Bath & Tennis Club, for no apparent reason, shortly before 4 a.m., police said.

After smelling marijuana inside the Dodge, police searched it and discovered a loaded .40 caliber semi-automatic firearm, in plain view, resting against the side of the driver’s seat near the driver-side door, according to the arrest report.

Bell told police she did not own the gun and didn’t know it was resting against the driver seat.

The search also uncovered a piece of a marijuana cigarette in an ashtray. Bell admitted she was smoking marijuana with two other people in the vehicle.
