It's officially official, Gwinnett — you're getting a brand new Cracker Barrel.

Back in April, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported on plans to bring the beloved old country breakfast spot to a budding retail center at 1740 Scenic Highway in Snellville. Details remained murky, however, and Cracker Barrel officials wouldn't confirm or deny anything — until Tuesday, when spokeswoman Breeanna Straessle told The AJC that ground was broken on the new restaurant last week.

The 10,000-square-foot location is tentatively scheduled to be open by mid- to late March.

Straessle also said the new Cracker Barrel plans to "locally hire over 175 full and part-time employees."

The new Snellville location will be just the fifth Cracker Barrel in (or very near) Gwinnett County, with current locations in Norcross, Suwanee, Buford and Braselton.

It's also just one of several new eateries coming to the Snellville area. A Freddy's Frozen Custard and Steakburgers opened recently in the same shopping center, and a new Zaxby's is expected to do so soon.

Gwinnett's first Cook Out location is being built just down the road, and a new "dine-in" movie theater hopes to open this fall in the same center where Jim 'N Nick's Bar-B-Q opened a new location last month.
