Woodstock’s fire department will be performing fire hydrant maintenance through June 1. It’s an annual chore designed to make sure the hydrants are working properly.

City officials said that residents may notice some temporary tap water discoloration during the work which is the result of sediment in the water lines being stirred up. It won’t harm people but may stain light-colored clothing. Fire crews will flow each hydrant until it runs clear and will grease and paint them as well.

Even after that process, the city said smaller water lines leading to each house might still have cloudy water and that residents can remedy that by running their water until it clears out.
