Alcohol and fireworks will be on the Woodstock City Council agenda next week.

A measure up for its second reading would move the start of alcohol sales on Sunday back two hours to 12:30 p.m. for businesses doing at least half their sales in food. City officials said the change is needed because of state legislation that failed to pass. The Georgia Brunch Bill, HB 535,would have moved sales up to 10:30 a.m. so that restaurant customers could enjoy a libation closer to the start of brunch.

The council will also get a first look at a proposed fireworks ordinance in line with a state law taking effect in January allowing the setup of temporary businesses selling fireworks. The $500 permits for the stands would last for 90 days and the businesses would be required to meet zoning regulations and be within 1000 feet of a fire hydrant.

The meeting is set for 7 p.m. Monday at the Chambers at City Center, 8534 Main St.
