Street closures, heavy traffic and lots of pedestrians will be the order of the day Thursday, July 4, in Woodstock, when the city observes Independence Day with a road race, parade, festival and fireworks display.
From 7 to 8:45 a.m., Main Street and Rope Mill Road will be closed from Ga. 92 to Woodstock Elementary School for the 23rd Annual Freedom Run 5K, 1 Mile and Tot Trot.
At about 8:45 a.m., Main and Rope Mill will reopen briefly. They’ll close again at 9:45 a.m. for the parade, which steps off at 10 a.m. at Woodstock Elementary and travels south on Rope Mill and Main, ending at the Sam’s Club near Ga. 92. The streets will reopen at roughly 11:30 a.m.
A Fourth of July festival happens in The Park at City Center from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.; and a fireworks display, at dusk in the area of Woodstock Square (the Target shopping center on Ga. 92). At the conclusion of the fireworks, Woodstock police will direct departing traffic east or west on Ga. 92, depending on where you parked.
