The Woodstock City Council Monday night approved a rezoning and annexation request for a planned subdivision, on the same tract where an similar earlier proposal had foundered.

The council OK’d Avin Properties, LLC’s request to annex and rezone roughly 19 acres of land on the south side of Cherokee Lane east of the South Cherokee Lane extension in order to build a residential subdivision. The developer sought approval for 35 homes, city staff recommended 29 lots instead due to density concerns.

The Woodstock Planning Commission approved the proposal Oct. 1.

In January, another developer sought to rezone and annex the same tract for a 68-home development. The city withdrew the proposal after Cherokee County objected that that plan wasn’t consistent with future city or county development maps and would financially hurt the county.

This go-round, the county didn’t object.
