The Woodstock City Council has approved a $1 million contract to prepare the new site of Morgan’s Ace Hardware, which is moving from its present location downtown to free up the land for redevelopment.

A1 Contracting LLC submitted the lower of two bids for the work, which calls for making the lot at 7337 Main St. “pad ready” with grading and filling, stormwater infrastructure, water and sewer lines and road improvements along Main.

The street work includes expansion for turning lanes, a 10-foot concrete sidewalk and two entrance drives. Additionally, a traffic signal will be installed at the new, full driveway after plans are made available for that part of the project.

Morgan’s Ace is to move from its current location at 109 E. Main St. Earlier this year, Woodstock annexed and rezoned 24.5 acres north of downtown, with 8.35 acres for the store and 16.1 acres for a park.
