The Woodstock City Council has given permission to an outdoor festival organizer for a temporary alcohol license Oct. 7 to sell beer and wine within the Market Street and neighborhood festival areas.

The Council also agreed to close parts of Wheeler, McAfee and Latimer streets for BBQ & Brews’ Cadence event. It will extend throughout the downtown area and include the Northside Hospital Cherokee Amphitheater.

The gathering, described in the organizers’ application as “a multiple stage original music festival,” is expected to draw 10,000 people. It also will be a Georgia BBQ Association sanctioned competition. Festival hours will be 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.

“Signs and/or temporary barricades will keep the alcohol from being taken outside the event area that does not fall within the boundary of the entertainment district,” the application says. “BBQ will hire a professional event company to ensure compliance with alcohol laws and liability.”
