A Woodstock man jailed after being charged with murdering his mother also is accused of trying to choke another inmate and attacking a deputy, police say.
Michael Jacobs, 21, attempted to choke another Cherokee Adult Detention Center inmate Monday afternoon, said Lt. Jay Baker, a spokesman for the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office.
The inmate assault occurred in the medical wing of the jail in front of deputies as food was being distributed to the inmates, Baker said.
Jacobs grabbed the other inmate around the neck from behind, Baker said. Deputies immediately removed Jacobs from the other inmate, who suffered no injuries.
Jacobs then attacked a deputy, prompting the authorities to place him in a holding cell. Baker did not say whether the deputy who was assaulted required medical treatment.
On Sunday, Jacobs called 911 and told dispatchers he had killed his mother, Melony Jacobs, 54, during a domestic dispute, the Sheriff’s Office said. The woman suffered from multiple stab wounds. Her son was taken to jail after being treated for hand injuries.
Jacobs’s first appearance hearing for his murder charge and and charge in the alleged attack on his fellow inmate originally was scheduled for Tuesday afternoon at the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center. Baker, however, said his attorney and the judge in the case now will go to Jacobs’ holding cell.
