Woodstock has set the first public meeting for Oct. 19 on the 10-year update to its comprehensive plan, giving residents an opportunity to contribute to a document that will look ahead to the year 2040.

The meeting starts at 6 p.m. at The Chambers at City Center, 8534 Main St. Its open house format means people can arrive any time between 6 and 8 p.m. Staff also is working on an online survey to be posted at the comprehensive plan website. Additional open houses are to be held in February and April as the plan is developed.

The plan will address such elements as vision and goals, needs and opportunities, economic development, transportation, land use, housing, sustainability, and parks and recreation, according to a presentation given at an Aug. 28 public hearing to launch the planning process.

The council must adopt the plan must by Oct. 31, 2018, for Woodstock to retain its Qualified Local Government status with the Georgia Department of Community Affairs. Information: http://bit.ly/2ywmqzP
