The Woodstock City Council this week heard recommendations for easing downtown parking woes.

Consultants from parking and transportation solutions firm SP+ sketched out a plan where the city could implement paid and time-limited parking. Paid locations would be located at Main and Chambers streets and two nearby downtown lots. Time-limited parking could be a bit further away, with unrestricted parking more remote still.

The consultants said while Woodstock has an adequate supply of parking, on-street slots in front of businesses are almost always occupied. They said implementing parking changes would ensure turnover in the more jammed spots while encouraging downtown workers and visitors to park longer-term in designated areas.

The council is scheduled to take up the issue again in mid-April.
