The Woodstock City Council has advanced measures that would allow the Morgan’s Ace Hardware store to move from its present downtown location and allow the redevelopment of that site.

The store would leave its current building at 109 E. Main St. for what is now a vacant parcel on the east side of Main, north of Ridgewalk Parkway, north of downtown.

The council had a first reading of an ordinance to annex the 24.5-acre site, and a vote on rezoning it from R-20 residential under Cherokee County zoning to neighborhood commercial and civic space under city zoning.

The store would occupy a parcel of about 8.35 acres, and 16.1 acres would be set aside for a park.

Council members added amendments, changing the 40-foot height limit to 35 feet, and adding a condition regarding screening to the south and east.
