Two women were hospitalized with serious injuries after crashing into a power pole early Sunday morning, Gwinnett police said.

The accident happened around 4 a.m. on Britt Road in Tucker. The driver, Inge Elston, 24, remains hospitalized at Gwinnett Medical Center. Passenger Rachel Moody, 24, was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in critical condition, police said. Her status was unavailable Monday morning.

Police don't believe drugs or alcohol contributed to the  crash, according to the incident report. Speed may have been a factor, however. Elston's Volvo snapped the power pole in two, temporarily leaving 89 homes without electricity. The crash remains under investigation.
