A woman was in stable condition after being shot in the head Thursday night in northwest Atlanta, according to police.

Investigators believe the woman and three men were traveling in a pickup truck on Joseph E. Boone Boulevard and Chappell Road, where they got into an altercation with a pedestrian, Officer John Chafee with Atlanta police said.

As the truck drove away, the pedestrian shot several times into the back of the vehicle, hitting the female in the head, Chafee said. The woman, whose name was not released, was the only person struck in the truck, Chafee said.

The truck’s driver continued to Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway at Finley Avenue, where those in the vehicle flagged down a police officer, Chafee said.

The victim was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital in stable condition, Chafee said.

No one was in custody late Thursday, according to police.
