A woman was shot by Gainesville police early Tuesday when she hit two officers while trying to flee a traffic stop, authorities said.

The officers were making a routine traffic stop on the woman when she tried to drive away, striking the officers.

The officers shot and wounded the woman, who was then taken into custody, according to police.

Gainesville police Cpl. Kevin Holbrook told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that the officers sustained minor injuries in the 4:30 a.m. incident.

The suspect’s identity and condition were not immediately available.
