Police are looking for the man who shot a woman in the leg during an attempted robbery in Atlanta on Tuesday night.

Officers responded to the scene at Clifton Street and Wade Avenue, where they found the woman with a gunshot wound in her left thigh around 6:40 p.m., Atlanta police spokesman Officer John Chafee said.

The woman was walking her dog when a man approached her and asked her what time it was, then pulled out a handgun and demanded her phone, according to the preliminary investigation.

“It appears that the victim’s dog may have become agitated toward the suspect and at some point the suspect fired at least one time striking the victim,” Chafee said in an emailed statement.

The suspect fled on foot.

The woman is in stable condition, Chafee said.

Officers searched the area with help from the K9 and air units, but the suspect was not found.

The investigation is continuing.
