Woman shot during attempted carjacking in southwest Atlanta
A woman was shot in the thigh early Tuesday during an attempted carjacking in southwest Atlanta, police said.
The victim told police that she was at the gate to the Villages at Castleberry Hill apartments on Greensferry Avenue about 2:15 a.m., “attempting to call her friend to buzz her in the complex,” Atlanta police spokeswoman Kim Jones told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
“A male with something black covering the lower part of his face entered her vehicle from the passenger side with a gun pointed at her and told her to get out of the vehicle,” Jones said in an e-mail.
Jones said the victim told investigators that she “tried to push buttons so that the gate would open and when it did not, the male yelled at her more violently, causing her to panic and accelerate forward in the vehicle, at which time the male shot once, striking her in the right thigh.”
After shooting the victim, the gunman fled on foot with another male, Jones said.
The victim was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in stable condition.
