A woman was shot dead in northwest Atlanta Friday afternoon after an argument with several other women, police said.

Authorities weren't releasing the identity of the victim Friday evening, but they did say she was about 30 years old.

She was gunned down in her car as she tried to drive away from the scene, near the intersection of Ajax Drive and Addison Place, Lt. Paul Guerrucci, commander of homicide investigations in Atlanta, told the AJC.

"We're not sure the people she was arguing with were the actual shooters," he said.

The incident occurred around 4 p.m. on a residential street. Police were interviewing witnesses as night fell, but Guerrucci said he had no suspects.

Multiple shots were fired, most likely from a handgun, Guerrucci said. The car was hit several times. It's unclear how many times the woman was shot, he said.
