A man was killed and two of his children were critically injured early Tuesday in a Clayton County crash, officials said.

The crash happened about 2:30 a.m. on Ga. 314 near Riverdale after the man was in a dispute with his wife, Clayton County police spokeswoman Sgt. Ashanti Marbury said in a news release.

After the dispute, the 42-year-old man decided to leave home with two of his children, Marbury said. The man’s wife and another child followed in another vehicle.

The first vehicle swerved, went off the road and hit an embankment, according to Marbury. The wife and child who were driving behind the first vehicle saw the crash.

The man was trapped in the vehicle and died on impact, Marbury said.

The children, girls age 13 and 5, were removed from the vehicle by emergency workers and had “extensive” injuries, Marbury said. Both girls were taken to local hospitals and remain in critical condition.

No identities were released.
