A woman died Wednesday after losing control of her SUV and running off the roadway, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday.
Maria Garcia, 45, of Riverdale, was ejected from her 1997 Mercury Mountaineer just before noon when she ran off Ga. 314 near the intersection with Bethea Road near Fayetteville, Maj. Bryan Woodie said.
Garcia, who was the only person in her vehicle, was transported to Southern Regional Hospital, where she later died, Woodie said. Investigators have not yet determined what caused Garcia to leave the roadway.
Garcia was not wearing her seat belt at the time of the crash, which remains under investigation. Her death is the fourth due to a motor vehicle crash this year in unincorporated Fayette County, Woodie said.
