A 45-year-old Douglasville woman was killed after her Nissan plowed into the rear of a tractor trailer late Tuesday, Cobb County police said.

Juliana Daniel died from injuries she sustained in the 10:30 p.m. crash, which occurred on  I-20 at Factory Shoals Road in Mableton, police said.

Investigators believe Daniel's 2001 Nissan Xterra and a 1998 Freightliner tractor trailer were westbound in the same lane when the semi stopped due to the traffic flow. Daniel drove into the rear of the trailer, though it is unclear why, police said.

Daniel was rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital, where she later died.

The semi driver, Mark Smith, 42, of Cullman, Ala., was not hurt. He is not expected to be charged, police said.

Anyone with information about the accident is urged to call police at 770-499-3987.
