A Cherokee County woman got stuck in her Toyota Camry on Monday morning after witnesses told emergency workers she hit the van in front of her, which was driven by her husband.

The 75-year-old woman struck the Honda van her 79-year-old husband was driving about 9:30 a.m. near Ball Ground Highway and Hightower Road, Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services spokesman Tim Cavender said.

“Her vehicle left the roadway and ended up near a construction area where an 8- to 10-foot hole had been dug,” Cavender said. “Fortunately, the car stopped before going into the hole.”

She was taken to North Fulton Hospital with a bone sticking out of her ankle. Cavender said she was otherwise in stable condition, both conscious and alert.

Sheriff’s office spokesman Lt. Jay Baker said the accident wasn’t intentional and the woman was not charged.

“She was injured and the family just lost two cars,” Baker said. “A citation seemed like overkill.”
