Hall County authorities are investigating an apparent drowning Sunday in Lake Lanier.

A woman in her 60s was found in the water off Woodlake Drive near Buford Dam shortly before 1:30 p.m., according to the Hall County sheriff’s office.

Family members pulled the woman from the water and tried to resuscitate her until an emergency medical crew arrived. She was pronounced dead at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

The sheriff’s office is trying to determine why the woman was in the water. Authorities did not immediately release her name.

The drowning occurred off a residential area on a cove of Lake Lanier, about five miles north of downtown Gainesville.
