A woman was arrested Thursday on suspicion of selling crack cocaine to help a drug dealer who is in jail, according to an arrest affidavit.

Marquita Leatrice Bell, 27, was charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of a firearm. She is being held at the Travis County jail on $20,000 bail.

She reportedly received multiple phone calls in May and June from Earnest Bell, 31, who is serving a six-year sentence in state prison for a tampering with physical evidence conviction. He has four prior drug convictions, prison records show.

The affidavit does not explain how Marquita Leatrice Bell and Earnest Bell are related.

Over the phone, Earnest Bell gave Marquita Leatrice Bell instructions on how to cook crack cocaine and advised her to only sell to people she knows, the affidavit said.

According to police, Marquita Leatrice Bell can be heard setting up crack cocaine sales on another phone during some of the calls.

Earnest Bell also told Marquita Leatrice Bell to set aside $5,000, and police believe he wanted to use the money to jump-start his drug business after being released from jail, the affidavit said.

Police searched Marquita Leatrice Bell’s home and say they found crack cocaine residue on a nylon bag, a plastic baggie, three measuring cups, a whisk, three spoons, a butter knife and a digital scale, the affidavit said.
