A Rex woman was in jail Friday, accused of a November hit-and-run in DeKalb County that killed a 53-year-old Jonesboro man.
Traci Lucille Luckey has been charged with felony vehicular homicide and is accused of striking and killing Erron Butler on Nov. 30, authorities said.
Luckey, 25, was arrested Wednesday by the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office fugitive squad and also was charged with hit-and-run and lying to police.
Police said Luckey hit Butler while driving her 2007 Chrysler Sebring through Conley in the 2900 block of Moreland Avenue, then drove away without rendering any help or calling for aid. Police recovered the Chrysler within a day of the accident near Jonesboro Road and Bisbee Avenue.
“Once questioned by police, Luckey came up with an alibi to indicate that she was not driving the car,” DeKalb Sheriff’s spokesman Sgt. Adrion Bell said.
Luckey had a friend, Joycecillia Morris, support her assertion to police, Bell said.
However, Bell said, “when Morris found out she was covering a felony, she recanted her story of giving Luckey a ride to work.”
Authorities said Morris provided them with a sworn statement rescinding from her alibi for Luckey.
Luckey is being held in the DeKalb County jail on $6,000 bond.
