Marietta’s Whitlock Avenue Sidewalk and Streetscape Enhancement project begins construction this week.

Since Whitlock Avenue is a state highway, the city is working by Georgia Department of Transportation directions with most of the construction occurring at night.

Weather permitting, the residential stretch through Kirkpatrick Drive should be completed before school starts in August.

Designed by Arcadis, this $3.5 million project will add sidewalks and other pedestrian improvements on both sides of the road and an improved streetscape with landscaping, street lights and entry signage.

The project is a part of the redevelopment bond approved by voters in November 2013 which also includes Franklin Road improvements.
