How we cover local news.

A foundation of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s core mission is to provide you insight into how your local government works so you can engage and make informed decisions.

The AJC is committed to covering city and county government and local schools.

That means:

  • Vetting the leaders who serve on your school board, who run your city and who lead your county.
  • Making sure you understand their decisions and that you know whether those decisions are made in good faith.
  • Exposing who is financially aligned with each elected official.
  • Holding public officials accountable for their words and deeds.
  • Explaining in detail the complexity of the most urgent problems in your community.
  • Demonstrating where local government is succeeding or falling short.

The AJC is there when it’s time to choose your leaders and when those who you’ve selected are conducting business on your behalf.

But a vibrant and inclusive public conversation must include you.
