Dozens of television shows and movies film in Atlanta every year, but filmakers like northern Fulton County too.
Roswell handed out several filming permits in 2017 for movies starring Tom Cruise and Ryan Gosling, VH1 reality shows and Budweiser commercials.
Here are some highlights of what was filmed in the city in north Fulton County last year, according to a list of film permits from Roswell:
Starring Tom Cruise, this movie follows the story of Barry Seal, a pilot who wound up meeting Pablo Escobar and running drugs for the CIA in the 1980’s. Domhnall Gleeson, Sarah Wright, Jesse Plemons and Caleb Landry Jones also star. It hit theaters last year on Sept. 29.
The AJC previously reported that this hit Netflix show starring Jason Bateman had filmed in Peachtree Corners, Braselton, Marietta, Atlanta, Canton, Woodstock and Norcross, but according to Roswell, scenes for the show were filmed there too. The show’s second season is set to debut later this year.
“Love & Hip-Hop”
This VH1 reality show has been on since 2010. It’s sixth season of “Love and Hip-Hop: Atlanta” featured Joseline Hernandez, Rasheeda, Karlie Redd, Mimi Faust, Tammy Rivera, Stevie J and Tommie Lee.
This show airs on OWN and is produced by Oprah Winfrey. It’s been on since 2016 and its third season is set to debut in 2018. IMDB says it’s about the Greenleaf family, their Memphis church, their “unscrupulous world” and “dark secrets.” Starring in the show are Merle Dandridge, Kim Hawthorne, Desiree Ross, Keith David and Rick Fox.
“Little Women: Atlanta”
The title of the show sort of speaks for itself, but IMDB says it’s about a group of “little women living in Atlanta as they deal with drama, friendship, careers and men.” It airs on Lifetime and season four is underway. The fourth episode this season airs on Feb. 7 at 9 p.m., according to the show’s website.
This biopic of Neil Armstrong stars Ryan Gosling and takes a look at the life of the first man to walk on the moon. IMDB says the movie is still filming and set to hit theaters later this year on Oct. 12. The movie also stars Claire Foy, Jon Bernthal, Kyle Chandler and Corey Stoll.
The pilot for this drama on Fox aired on Jan. 21. IMDB describes the show being about a senior resident showing a young doctor “all of the good and evil in modern day medicine.” It stars Tasso Feldman, Matt Czuchry, Emily VanCamp and Manish Dayal.
“Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul”
Based on a series of books about a middle-schooler by Jeff Kinney, this is the fourth movie for the wimpy kid. The PG movie hit theaters last May and was rated 4.2 out of 10 on Rotten Tomatoes.
Commercials for UPS, Publix, Comcast, Toyota, Resurgens and Budweiser were also filmed in Roswell last year. Christine Ward, Roswell’s special events manager, added that “a number of” music videos were filmed in the city too.
