Skies will be mostly clear this weekend and so will the roadways, for the most part.
There will be some clouds on Saturday, but little chance of rain, with temperatures on the chilly side. Highs Saturday won't make it out of the 50s after an overnight low in the low 30s Friday night, said Channel 2 Action News meteorologist David Chandley. He said high temperatures Saturday could vary widely depending on cloud cover, with some areas only reaching the upper 40s or low 50s.
"I think that east and northeast sections of the metro area have a better chance to be cooler than the western and southern areas," Chandley said.
There will be lots of sunshine on Sunday and a warming trend will begin, with highs reaching the mid- to upper 60s, he said.
With only one major event in town, the state Department of Transportation's weekend roadwork shouldn't cause too many hassles. The biggest chance of delays will be on the southside, where two left lanes of I-75 south will be closed from Old Dixie Highway to Mount Zion Road in Clayton County.
In DeKalb County, one right lane of I-285 south at I-20 and the southbound ramp to I-20 east will be closed from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday; one left lane of I-20 westbound from Panola Road to Wesley Chapel Road will be closed from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday; and one right lane of I-20 west at Turner Hill Road will be closed from 7 a.m. to midnight Saturday.
In Fulton, the HOV lanes on both sides of I-75 between University Avenue and Langford Parkway will be closed from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday.
In Douglas County, two lanes of I-20 west will be closed at Chapel Hill Road from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
In Henry County, one right lane of I-75 south will be closed for a 3-mile stretch north and south of Hudson Bridge Road from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday.
The biggest event Saturday is the Georgia-Kentucky game in Athens, where the Bulldogs will try to clinch a spot in the SEC Championship Game. It's an early kickoff -- 12:21 p.m. -- so traffic will be heavy Saturday morning on I-85 north and Ga. 316 east.
On Sunday, the Falcons play the Tennessee Titans at the Georgia Dome at 4:15 p.m. Expect heavy traffic downtown and on the Downtown Connector before and after the game.
Other events in town this week include the Gift of Lights at the Atlanta Motor Speedway Friday night; the Atlanta Opera at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre at 8 p.m. Friday and 3 p.m. Sunday; Georgia State vs. Campbell football game at the Georgia Dome at 2 p.m. Saturday; and the Atlanta Fall Classic II Friday through Sunday at the Georgia International Horse Park in Conyers.
