The usual assortment of road construction is planned for the top-end Perimeter this weekend, weather permitting, and except for a slight chance of sprinkles late in the day on Saturday, the weather should be permitting.
Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Karen Minton is forecasting a sunny but cold start to the day on Saturday, with clouds increasing and a 20 percent chance of showers later in the day. Lows Saturday morning should be in the mid-20s, followed by afternoon highs in the low 50s.
In extreme north Georgia, a few snowflakes could be mixed in with the Saturday evening sprinkles, the National Weather Service predicted.
Sunday should be sunny and windy, Minton said, with a morning low in the mid-30s, an afternoon high in the mid-50s and winds blowing in from the northwest at 10 to 20 mph.
Weekend road construction will be blocking up to three eastbound lanes and two westbound lanes of I-285 between Riverside Drive and Ga. 400, beginning at 9 p.m. Friday and continuing through 5 a.m. Monday.
In that same area, the ramp from Ga. 400 northbound to I-285 westbound will be blocked from 8 a.m. Saturday through 8 p.m. Sunday. Doug Turnbull in the AM750 and 95.5FM News/Talk WSB Traffic Center advises using Roswell Road to access I-285.
Other lane closures could cause delays on Ga. 400 in both directions between I-85 and Lenox Road all weekend.
Downtown events this weekend include the “A-Town Showdown” collegiate dance competition at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at the Georgia World Congress Center and the Hawks-Bulls game at 7 p.m. Saturday at Philips Arena.
