Weave thieves kept police busy in Atlanta and Cobb County early Tuesday, smashing vehicles into two beauty supply stores before stealing hair extensions.

The first break-in happened just after 5 a.m. at I Heart Hair on Marietta Boulevard in northwest Atlanta.

According to Atlanta police, the thieves apparently crashed a truck through the front store windows, causing extensive damage.

Store owners told investigators they would have to do a complete inventory to determine how much merchandise was stolen.

About 30 minutes later, thieves drove a vehicle through the front doors of Joy Beauty Supply on Cobb Parkway in Smyrna.

Store owners told AM750 and 95.5FM News/Talk WSB that surveillance video showed that the burglars were in the store for about 10 minutes, making three trips inside and loading approximately $50,000 in hair extensions into the trunk of their vehicle.

High-end hair extensions, which sell for as much as $100 or more a pack, have been a popular target of smash-and-grab thieves in recent years.
