National Night Out is upon us once again, and police departments across DeKalb are celebrating.

The annual event occurs on the first Tuesday of August and is celebrated by police precincts across the United States and Canada. This year, that’s Tuesday, Aug. 2.

The community-building campaign is meant to promote "police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie," according to its website.

Here’s where you can celebrate and get to know your local law enforcement this year:

DeKalb County Sheriff's Office

DeKalb County government is hosting its festivities in the parking lot of The Gallery at South DeKalb (2801 Candler Road, Decatur). The event will last from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.

There will be representatives from the county sheriff’s office, Fire Rescue, the Gang Unit and Library Services, as well as members of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. Enjoy live music and vendors as you get to know your county-level law enforcement.

Clarkston PD

The city of Clarkston is celebrating National Night Out with impaired driving simulations and information on child booster seat safety. The event will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. in the parking lot of Clarkston International Bible Church (3895 Church St., Clarkston).

Residents can play games with the officers and check out the different public safety vehicles that will be on display. There will also be food trucks available so you can grab a bite while you’re out.

Lithonia PD

Lithonia's police department is partnering with Peach State Health Plan and Mercy Housing to offer health screenings during their event. Held from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lithonia Amphitheater (2515 Park Dr., Lithonia), the celebration will offer free food and live entertainment throughout the evening.

Combined Celebration

At Perimeter Mall in Dunwoody (4400 Ashford Dunwoody Road, Dunwoody), stop by between 6 and 9 p.m. to see the combined celebration between the cities of Brookhaven, Dunwoody, Sandy Springs and Johns Creek.

The four police departments will bring patrol cars and SWAT vehicles, and there will be firetrucks on display from the Sandy Springs Fire Department and DeKalb County Fire and Rescue Department.

Officers and personnel will be available to answer any questions about the vehicles or the job. Check out the local business vendors, live music and free food and drinks, donated by the community.
