Roswell Fire Chief Ricky Burnette said a budget amendment approved by the Roswell City Council this week could lead to replacement of one of the city’s busiest fire stations by the end of 2016.

The council voted unanimously to accept a $920,000 budget change for Fire Station 4 near Holcomb Bridge Road and Ga. 400. Burnette says a rise in construction costs resulted in the budget gap, even with the project having been re-engineered to reduce some costs.

The chief said design work on the reconfigured $5.1 million proposed facility will now finish up and a March groundbreaking is tentatively planned for the station, which will replace the old outmoded Station 4.

It’s the city’s second-busiest fire company.
