Fayette County is allocating more funds to repair and maintain its water system storage tanks.

The Board of Commissioners voted 5-0 at its Jan. 23 regular meeting to increase the county’s existing contract with Southeastern Tank and Tower, Inc., by $275,350, bringing the total amount of the contract to $1,083,250. The general contract is for maintenance and repair of Fayette’s five water towers, three of which are in Peachtree City and two of which are in Fayetteville. However, during repairs on the tanks on Lees Mill Road and Ellis Road in Fayetteville, pressure washing revealed corrosion and coating failure on the interior walls, which require further work.

Following the approval of the additional repair funds, Commissioner Charles Roussea said water tank inspections should be more frequent and that “predictive and preventive” maintenance should be scheduled regularly.
