The Hampton City Council received a detailed report from city manager Alex Cohilas at the Dec. 10 council meeting about recent problems with the city’s water system.
Cohilas said that an internal investigation is ongoing, and that customers are receiving water from Henry County while the city’s wells have been closed for retesting. Several unfavorable reports from the state’s Environmental Protection Division were not addressed properly and in some cases not at all, according to Cohilas, who recently brought in an outside firm to operate the water system and keep it at EPD standards.
The report came less than three weeks after public works director John Spraggins was fired in an emergency council meeting. Cohilas recommended ongoing public meetings to update citizens on the progress of the city as the investigation continues.
