Drivers traveling through Berkeley Lake will experience some delays beginning March 9 as the Gwinnett County Department of Water Resources begins the replacement of a water main on South Berkeley Lake Road.

Motorists can initially anticipate single lane closures on South Berkeley Lake Road. During construction, the contractor will install a pipe from Bush Road to Little Ridge Road. Later during the project Little Ridge Road may be closed to through traffic.

Because the water line will be placed under the sidewalk for portions of the project, the sidewalk on South Berkeley Lake Road will be closed at some point and is expected to remain closed until the project is completed. The project includes replacement or repair of sidewalks, curb, gutter and driveways. Full milling and resurfacing of the roadway will take place from the corner of South Berkley Lake Road at Bush Road to just beyond Lakeshore Drive. Landscaping will also be replaced or repaired at any disturbed yards and on the county right of way.

Assuming weather is cooperative, engineers anticipate completing Phase 1 of the project by the end of May.
