The front canopy at the entrance to Robert J. Burch Elementary School in Tyrone will be replaced following structural damage caused by heavy rain earlier this year.

The Fayette County Board of Education voted 5-0 on Sept. 24 to award a contract of $110,119 to Torrance Construction for the project, and established an overall construction budget of $150,00 to cover additional architectural, engineering and inspection costs. The county said the internal gutter system of the structure had failed due to water damage, requiring repairs to the roof, stucco and drainage system.

Construction is expected to be complete by late December.
