A design idea by three East Point employees in the Water and Sewer Department has saved the city more than $1 million. Staff members of the Water and Sewer Department designed and installed the city’s current sodium hypochlorite system, which oxidizes and disinfects East Point’s water supply. The state-approved system replaces chlorine gas which was previously used and outdated.

The city circulated a bid to replace the previous system at a cost of $1.4 million. However, the design and installation by Water and Sewer employees was a costs savings to citizens totaling over $1 million.
