Water and Sewer employees save city money
By Dionne Kinch
Jan 29, 2015A design idea by three East Point employees in the Water and Sewer Department has saved the city more than $1 million. Staff members of the Water and Sewer Department designed and installed the city’s current sodium hypochlorite system, which oxidizes and disinfects East Point’s water supply. The state-approved system replaces chlorine gas which was previously used and outdated.
The city circulated a bid to replace the previous system at a cost of $1.4 million. However, the design and installation by Water and Sewer employees was a costs savings to citizens totaling over $1 million.
