There’s something you should know if your weekly routine takes you to the Walmart on Canton Road in Marietta.
That store will close Dec. 4, said Phillip Keene, Walmart’s director of communications for the Southeast.
“We evaluate our facilities annually on performance and other criteria when we make the decision,” he said. “In the case of this store, it was based on a number of factors, financial performance being one of them.
The neighborhood store employs nearly 70 people.
“This isn’t a job-loss scenario,” Keene said. “ ... We want to move them to another store with us.”
A Walmart on Powder Springs Street closed in March that had 65 employees, with company hopes to get them into other stores. Keene said "literally all but a handful" of them transferred to another location.
“We’re hopeful we’ll be able to do the same,” Keene said of the Canton Road closure.
The last day for employees is Jan. 5.
If still working by then, Keene said, certain employees — full-time salaried, full-time hourly who’ve worked there at least a year, part-time who’ve worked there at least five years — who haven’t been offered a comparable position will be eligible for severance.
