Three days into autumn, and temperatures were already feeling very fall-like early Monday, as the mercury dipped into the 40s across most of metro Atlanta.

Readings at 7 a.m. included 41 in Alpharetta, 42 in Cartersville and 43 in Dunwoody, Johns Creek and Peachtree City. Hartsfield-International Airport recorded a low early Monday of 51.

In the mountains, Blairsville reported 34 degrees.

Channel 2 Action News meteologist David Chandley said Monday afternoon should be sunny and cool, with highs topping out around 77 degrees.

Atlanta’s normal high for Sept. 24 is 80 degrees, the normal low 62.

Chandley’s extended forecast calls for the sunny and dry weather to last throughout the work week, with afternoon temperatures climbing back into the mid-80s by Thursday. Morning lows will be in the 50s on Tuesday and in the low to mid-60s the rest of the week.
