Volunteers are being sought for the Great Lake Allatoona Clean Up, a project to remove litter and debris from the shores of Allatoona Lake in Cherokee and Bartow counties.

This year’s cleanup is set for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5.

Participants will work out of multiple sites around the lake. The event concludes with picnics at the Riverside Park Day Use Area, Cartersville; and the Galt’s Ferry Day Use Area, Acworth. Sponsor booths, music, prizes and other activities are planned.

Boat owners also are invited to participate, and overnight camping will be available for volunteers at Sweetwater Campground.

Sponsors include the Great Lake Allatoona Clean Up Committee, Lake Allatoona Association, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and the Acworth Parks, Recreation and Community Resource Department.

"This is a great project for Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, community groups and anyone who wants to help keep our lake clean," according to an event announcement. Information, and to register: https://bit.ly/2mhR9i7
