There’s been a break in the filched fried chicken oil case: Villa Rica police announced Thursday that they’ve arrested one of two men who allegedly stole the oil from the back of the Big Chic restaurant in that city.

Chrystian Hernandez of Donna, Texas, was arrested and charged with theft by taking, police said. The value of the stolen oil, if sold to be recycled for biodiesel fuel, was estimated at about $300.

After Channel 2 Action News broadcast surveillance video showing two men in a Pacific Moving and Storage Truck pulling up to the Big Chic early Saturday morning and helping themselves to three 55-gallon drums of used cooking oil, the Hiram Police Department alerted Villa Rica police that they had spotted the truck.

Villa Rica detectives located the vehicle at 1125 Bonnie Lane in Dallas.

An investigation that also involved the Dallas Police Department and Paulding Marshal’s Office determined that the 21-year-old Hernandez was driving the truck the night of the theft, police said.

The oil was being gathered for processing by a company named Green Solutions, police said. But the outfit had no business license, and several other violations allegedly were found. Charges are pending with Dallas and Paulding authorities.

Villa Rica police continue to seek the second suspect.
