A former elementary school in the Chosewood Park neighborhood of Atlanta’s southeast side has been rezoned for other uses, and the Atlanta Public Schools confirmed a video production company has a contract to acquire the property.
Crazy Legs Production, whose website bills it as "Atlanta's leading developer of unscripted television and branded content," has had a purchase contract with APS pending since early 2015 for the former Milton Avenue Elementary School and its 2.18-acre site at 202 Milton Ave. SE.
The City Council on Monday approved two ordinances amending the Atlanta Comprehensive Development Plan and rezoning the school, as well as adjacent residential properties on the 1200 block of Climax Street near the Atlanta Beltline, from residential to mixed use.
Crazy Legs offered $425,000 for Milton School, according to APS. Built in 1915 and closed in 1983, it is one of four schools whose ownership is to be transferred from the city so APS can close on sales contracts totaling $1.4 million.
“APS is still waiting for the deed to the property from the city, but the buyer is still moving forward with the purchase, pending the release of the deed by the city,” a schools spokeswoman said.
Milton School is a two-story building with classrooms, offices and a cafeteria/auditorium with stage. An architect’s plan filed with the city for the proposed “CLP Offices” indicates a renovation for commercial use, retaining its auditorium and enlarging its parking lot from 20 to 28 spaces.
