Victims of Piedmont Road shooting identified

Two people killed in a Saturday afternoon shooting on Piedmont Road have been identified.

Dantarious Harold, 27, of Decatur, and Sheldon Atchinson, 22, of Atlanta, were the homicide victims, according to the Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office.

Atlanta police believe robbery may have been the motive.

At least four people apparently had planned to meet at Piedmont Place, a special events facility located in the 1800 block of Piedmont Road, Major Keith Meadows told the AJC.

“It appears that the victims were in the parking lot," Meadows said.

At some point, at least two dozen shots were fired from at least three weapons, Meadows said. Harold and Atchinson were killed.

Another person suffered a serious injury and underwent surgery at Grady Memorial Hospital, Meadows said. A fourth person involved in the situation fled the scene in a black Dodge Charger with a Lousiana tag, he said.

Investigators will use ballistic evidence to learn more about what happened, Meadows said.
