A would-be robbery victim was shot inside his south DeKalb County home early Thursday, but not before shooting and wounding one of his assailants, police said.

The shooting happened around 3 a.m. at a home on Boulderwoods Drive, DeKalb police spokeswoman Mekka Parish said.

The victim “was at a location off Candler Road when two individuals forced their way into his car,” Parish said.

“They then forced him to drive back to his home, at which point they began to demand money,” Parish said.

“At some point, the victim was able to arm himself with a weapon and fire, striking one of the suspects,” she said. “One of the suspects did return fire, striking the victim.”

She said one of the suspects was able to get away, but the wounded suspect collapsed in a neighbor’s yard, where he was found by responding officers.

The victim, a 21-year-old man whose name has not been released, and the wounded suspect, whose identity has not been determined, were both taken to local hospitals in critical but stable condition, Parish said.
